This is either a dumb question or one that's already been asked a bunch of times or both, but why don't we have an LPAC Convention that the media falls all over itself to cover?

It's not complicated.

Hi! This is a labeler account meant to identify Substack links. If you didn't know, Substack actively courts and platforms Nazis. If you quit X/Twitter because of the Nazi problem, well, what are you still doing on Substack? There are plenty of alternatives which may be more cost-effective for you.

I would literally need to quit my day job to run for my city council, where my skills would be best, but I'm eyeing school and library next cycle.

Discworld QOTD, from Feet of Clay β€œThey think they want good government and justice for all, Vimes, yet what is it they really crave, deep in their hearts? Only that things go on as normal and tomorrow is pretty much like today.”

Nightmare flashbacks to my stroller pushing days.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

It looks like the sign has already been taken care of! Good work students!

I’m involved with a pro active transport - cycling / bus use group. We have commissioned adds for back of our local buses. They are now driving around - great. I’m thinking other regions should use them too.

Day 21 - Black Cemeteries #BlackHistoryMonth

One thing the US failed to address in any sort of meaningful way over the past 4 years: The housing crisis. Young and even middle-age people are increasingly cut out of homebuying. Situation likely to worsen in coming 4 years with tariffs, deportation of immigrants, & high interest rates.

One might assume that an alderperson would be more likely to vote for a speed limit reduction if their constituents were more exposed to traffic violence. That was NOT the case for yesterday's vote to reduce Chicago's default speed limit from 30 to 25.

Hot take but the Art Institute is the best art museum in the country, even better than the Met

Yep. Got a burgeoning local safe streets advocacy group that formed only last month and we're taking action to get our municipal election candidates all on record where they stand on making walking, biking, and transit access safer for everyone.

My Overton Window has also moved for how we punish these fascists after we get our country back from them...

On a recent engineer-focused webinar about updates to MUTCD, the crowd focused on "time to respond" or "clear and simple" as the most important elements of signage. By selecting "command respect" I seemed to be the only one that thought of the current failures of speed limits and stop signs.

Donald Shoup's interview with @thewaroncars.bsky.social even points out an easy solution: a free initial warning that spells out the escalating cost.

It's quite the stark contrast where lower speed limits (i.e. 20 or 25 MPH) are found in Chicago today. Data is from OpenStreetMap as of 02/19/2025 See the data for yourself overpass-turbo.eu/s/1Z3U
