The last five years of the Soto contract are going to make the Pujols Angels deal look like the best contract in sports history, but the important thing to remember is that Steve Cohen has no reason to care and thus you should not either

Not that this was your comparison, but I've also seen people bring up Pujols' contract in relation to Soto, and imagine if Albert actually signed when Soto did... it'd be so fondly remembered even with the steep decline
The 26-27 years are rarely aavailable in FA, especially for peak players
Soto will only be 40 at the end of this deal and Justin Turner put up a 117 wRC+ at 39 this year. If Soto is ever worse than like the last couple good years of Joey Votto before then I'd be shocked
I was just saying that Bryce Harper--who while not as good as Soto was still a 25-year-old recent MVP--got $330 million over 13 years just six years ago
How do you know?
Plantar fasciitis is what killed Pujols over time.
Maybe Soto goes the way of David Ortiz over time & gets so many “Golden ABs” that he out produces all DH/1B…
Also, he could very easily end up being worth more than this? Especially since his particular set of skills tends to age well. It's hard to imagine but this might end up being a value deal

If Cohen wanted to cut Soto today and pay off his whole contract, Cohen'd still be roughly worth the GDP of Yemen
(Yeah it's Yemen, but how many countries are *you* worth?)
