I've been getting in touch with norwegian publishers to ask about translating some of these authors, you included, and they say it is to difficult to sell unknown foreign authors, so it's always no.

I'm not in the writing business but I'm a reader, quite prolific (125 so far - at the end of October). I don't know how the authors I read are classified per se but if you could get starter packs of mid-list authors going it would be a first step. I take recos from anywhere ...

With you on this. I’d love to discover authors who never feature in reviews, have talks in book shops and are not automatically given shelf space in Waterstones. I’ve found some wonderful books on here, mainly recommended by another writer.

1000% agree. It would be amazing if it became a national/international initiative and picked up by someone like BookTrust or the SLA or The Reading Agency. Imagine if there was something like the summer reading challenge for mid-tier/indie authors, I think so many more kids would join in!

It frustrates that most media and promotion will never be on the authors who are slogging away day after day
