Video games have always been there for me during the tough times. They not only kept me from falling apart but have given the strength, healing, and escape needed to deal with my troubles, especially the last few years. It irritates me when people say, "Video Games are a waste of time."
Just ignore them, they are haters. Actually, anybody who says anything similar about any hobbies just doesn't want to understand how that stuff can help other people.
True. A lot of people who said that me I noticed don't have any hobbies or passions of their own. I once asked someone, "What their hobbies were?" After the whole video games waste time statement. And they didn't answer. I have started to ignore these people ever since.
My favorite is when they say that or say like “I wish I had time to play silly games!” And proceed to watch tv from the moment they get home till they go to sleep.
Most of these people 9 times out of 10 enjoy spending their time watching sports or FOX news or some form of mind-numbing sitcom and somehow think more engaging mediums that actually promote things like hand movement and brain exercise are "wastes of time" like, fuck me with these people.
Hey now! I'm a Gen-X'r and I grew up with the old school NES as a kid and my mind was BLOWN AWAY when I first played Dragon Warrior (NES) - that was my first JRPG ever! My parents, whom are boomers, also loved playing Tetris or Dr. Mario!
The pursuit of joy is never a waste. I feel sorry for them for holding that perspective; it isn't a life I'd want to live, and I am thrilled that I don't. 😊
If someone were to say "theyre a waste of MY time" id have no argument, but yeah it's the blanket statement assumption that someone else knows what's good for me that urks me like shut your judgemental ass the fuck up
I honestly don’t understand how people have this mindset. Video games are an escape from the real world for many of us. They’re not just about shooting and killing. Video games are about the actual story. How it relates to the gamer and how it helps us grow as people outside the game itself.
I tell them this everytime. How much it has helped me more than one ways. Just to get the answer "From the looks of it you haven't moved up much" bruh I'm telling you, sometimes I just wanna...
Like I promise you that without games I wouldn't have been here. Or things would have been much worse for me. Ever think of that? No? Oh okay that's what I thought.
I'm glad that the "video games are a waste of time" sentiment isn't as prevalent these days as it used to be some years back. But obviously it's something certain groups still scoff at. And all I can say to those folks - piss off.
I constantly have these people in my neck and I wanna punch them so hard because... no you're not gonna take away the best hobby life from me you foolish couch TV binge watcher.
Super Mario Odyssey saved my life in ways that no self help book could have ever done. It sounds crazy but I owe that stupid little plumber a debt for being there for me in my darkest moments.
That phrase really irritates the hell out of me
Video games have done so much for me since my childhood
Its improved my mental health, i have met amazing friends, helped me through the Covid pandemic, etc
I cant imagine what my life would be like without them 🎮🤍
I have family who say this shit while they spend 6 hours a night watching Instagram reels. Obv not judging how they spend their time, I don't really care. But the hypocrisy is off the CHARTS
We still to this day play video games together! It helps our relationship, helps our mental health, and we always have something in common to gripe about! 😂
The same people that talked shit then, now play Farmville constantly on their phones. 🤔
I can say the same about so much stuff normies are using.
Facebook, Instagram, beauty salons, cafeterias, walking in parks basically everything that doesn't produce value.
I spend a whole lot of time at home due to various illnesses, the only time I speak to someone not related to me is online via gaming, it's a lifeline for me.
Just look at all the socially awkward people on here making new friends through a shared love of video games. So wholesome and definitely not a waste of time.
She was my favorite aunt too and I’m just like…I genuinely feel like I’ve made worthwhile friends through this medium. Why be so harsh? At least I’m not the drug addict you thought I’d grow up to be
I needed to have games to bury myself in and enjoy good storys with moral characters as a child. My moms first husband was an abuser and a racist pos. I don't want to think what I would be now if he had unmitigated influence on me.
Could easily be, “if you’re still wearing team jerseys and going to Hooters to watch the game with ‘the boys’, you need to grow up.” Or playing fantasy sports. Or talking incessantly about your car.
Have these people SEEN a videogame? I really don’t think Gears of War was made for 8-year olds.
Imagine saying if you're watching TV over the age of 20 you need to grow up 😂 it's all entertainment at the end of the day
Hell without videogames is hardly speak to most of my friends, a lot of the time I'm not particularly in the mood to game but I'll still jump on just to be social
Eh, mine kinda understand but they also criticize my gaming/anime shirts and tell me I need to grow up and look more mature if I want to be taken seriously
That’s such a weird thing to say when you think about it. “Don’t allow yourself to express any fun or whimsy because people won’t take you seriously.” Take seriously the things that you need to and nobody who matters is going to be worried about your clothing choices.

Like anything that’s not labor is a waste of time. The only reason I work is to play.
Enjoy your life.
As long as you aren't harming yourself or others.
You do You!!🫶
(were taking a train because I'm scared of planes)
Time I enjoy wasting is not time wasted, either.

They’ve done the same for me !
*Spends 8 hours watching TV*

One of these activities is actually engaging your brain
Hence why you would say something so stupid
Everyone has their joy. A waste time for one person is everything to someone else.
"What's most important is what you are like on the inside, not the outside. Right Cecil?"
This is relevant now more than ever in the USA since January 20th, 2025.
Is he still playing those ridiculous video games?
Made me really consider ever talking to family again
And we should fight them.
It's such a dumb take to try to make people feel like they should outgrow a hobby that brings them joy, and in many cases, even friendships

It's just a narrow-minded way of thinking. If your priorities are in check, why does someone care so much how you choose to spend your downtime 🤷🏻♀️
