That's actually the main reason I got a cheap windows handheld is Morrowind! I know there is a fork of open MW for Android so maybe I could make it work?
It was very real. I worked at nSpace where they developed it. It was a demo that the studio pitched to Microsoft. Microsoft loved it and hated it at the same time. I joined nSpace about a year after this was made. Same engine that we developed all of our James Bond games and CoD DS games in.
In general I am kinda sad that the trend of 3d never caught on wider in gaming. There was that brief period where 3d monitors and tvs were a thing, but it was really short lived and few games really adopted it.
I would be way more interested in more of that than VR.
If it's any consolation, people regularly port 3D movies to the 3DS and the homebrew scene is rather active to keep the games alive and develop their own stuff now that eShop is down
I'm having a flashback of someone who was trying to make a similar set up for a multi monitor set up with a tablet touchscreen in OpenMW, directly in response to this image. Wonder whatever happened to it.
I feel that people have kinda been chasing a more convenient way to play morrowind anywhere since the day you could take an Xbox to a friend's house and be like "dude you gotta play this"
My cousin did that and trolled me into using the scroll of icarian flight.

Same, I'm not interested in "VR" while it's just attaching a box to my face. That's not VR, that's just a "Solid Eye Tobidacid" without the janky 3D.
Split screen gaming without split screen was definitely one of the coolest features.
