It was just a way of encouraging people to travel so they drove more and wore down their tires faster so they would buy more. It is funny how much it took off into a Real Serious Thing though.
Yep. The Michelin star system started as a way to show travelers where to eat. It's not dissimilar as how Guinness Book started as a bunch of drunkards in a pub discussing what the fastest or heaviest birds one could hunt and they started to keep tabs on such things.
Not really. It's an older method of optimization where you do multiple services bundled together. If you're doing tires, you might want people to go to places with those tires, so you get into maps, but wait they won't know where to eat at those places, so you get into the restaurant review business
It’s fun seeing people find out that the restaurant star company and the tire company are literally the same and it’s not a coincidence where two companies share a name
