there's quite a lot of states of matter, i dont know why the article says that 'experts dont think its possible', we've discovered plenty of states of matter. what you learn in high school is a gigantic oversimplification. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_states_of_matter
Why not? Microsoft already invented Vaporware, which is a combination of Schroedinger's Cat and a Rorschach blot: It does (not) exist until you try to actually see it, and it can be interpreted to be anything you want to believe.
That's disappointingly lazy reporting from the NYT (or just an editor trying to juice a headline?). We know tons more states of matter than three, and while some like Bose-Einstein condensates might be obscure if you're not a hard scifi fan (or I guess a physicist) we've all heard of plasma
Also the type of state they produced was predicted in a 1980 paper so uh scientists thought it was so impossible that they wrote a paper about how it was possible I guess
Nah, it's a topological qubit, basically a bunch of electrons held in place in some kind of standing wave I guess? But yeah there's like 20 exotic states of matter and the very non exotic plasma state of course. But plasma requires extreme temperatures and this requires the opposite: near 0K

Fixed it for you, NYT.
