oh for sure - i just got confused because my senior project in ‘99 was on the history of ska from inception into the 3rd wave and helping put on a benefit show of local bands so i was wondering if maybe my research was wrong since it was so long ago
I used to picture it like the scene from That Thing You Do, where the drummer suddenly starts playing at a faster tempo so all the other band members do the same and the audience goes crazy.
But I guess it was the opposite: a ska band slowed a song way down and the crowd loved the mellow vibe.
Seems more likely they'll give you a big lecture about it and the hipster run down on common knowledge. "so it combines jazz with R&B and Caribbean music before reggae evolved as a slowed down version of rocksteady and ska. you got your first wave, second wave and third"
My 12 year old son is learning all the brass instruments for band, he stumbled upon his new favorite genre of music among my Spotify playlists. Also, normalize just having a dude dancing as part of your band...
