Phil hi a lifetime ago I lived on a 50' NB up the Stort. In those days there were lock-keepers and kingfishers. We got a kitten (Captain Cat) which fell in the water & to my astonishment immediately began to swim (doggy paddle?) & was also able to change direction to come towards our rescuing hands.
