I taught myself lock picking during lockdown. It's a fun way to keep your hands occupied. Even when you've picked a particular padlock before, it's still challenging over and over again. Surprisingly replayable game really.

Tbf, a lot of this stuff is things I have studied purely for fun. I have no illusions about an actual apocalypse/civil war, because I'm disabled to the point that cryptography and electrical engineering knowledge probably isn't going to help me anyway. Life isn't like video games, I was being silly.

Last time I tried to pick a lock was when my son and I visited Canada and he lost the key to his suitcase somewhere along the way. So I gave him a basic lockpicking lesson, but I couldn't get that cheapass suitcase lock open. Then he took over and popped it easily using what I told him.

I haven't picked a physical lock in years, most of them here now are combination code locks unless it's the door to your house.

I get a lot more opportunities to keep in practise with digital cryptography.
