I don't have specific knowledge on this instance, but it's typical to receive unemployment when someone is let go due to downsizing. It's best to apply as soon as terminated/laid off from a job.
Right, but they're firing due to downsizing... Unless fired for doing something awful, people still usually get their unemployment insurance. Hopefully someone with more immediate knowledge can give you info. Best wishes.
It's why many federal employees didn't take the buy out opinion. First off, the benefits aren't guaranteed and the whole offer is suspect. But secondly, if you take it, you won't be eligible for unemployment if you eventually need it. If you make them fire you, you will be eligible.
