What gets me is he’s a hematologist-oncologist and he said contacts of high risk people shouldn’t get seasonal COVID vaccines if they’re low risk because we lack robust evidence that this protects high risk people.

However, it is not the same thing as whether or not kids should get an original series of vaccines *before* they encounter SARS-CoV-2. Kids under 6 months have among the highest hospitalization rates from COVID (second only to adults over 75) and this virus has not become a mild virus.

The difference in the outcomes we see with COVID-19 between now and the beginning of the pandemic is overwhelmingly immunity. Once maternal antibodies fade, so too will protection. Parents at the very least deserve the option to be able to protect their children.

I would strongly encourage reading the entire article. Trying to copycat what other countries are doing simply because it is what they are doing doesn't make it good public health policy. Vaccine schedules differ from country to country and these deviations are not arbitrary. For example...

meningococcal capsule group B is a much bigger problem for infants in Europe so it is on their schedule during infancy. In the US, we don't give it until adolescence. In the US, there is a much higher incidence of chronic hepatitis B carriers than in Europe, so we universally vaccinate babies.

even between Canada and the US things are different! when we were visiting Canada Levi was having some non-specific fever/vomiting/rash and the free telehealth nurse was surprised his 18 month vaccines included Hep A which is just a travel vaccine in Canada

It wasn't an "article" published in the journal it was an essay the pair has touted as research. TLDR: The essay's ethical "analysis" determined that while the COVID booster protects against infection+spread, personal freedom is more important and therefore college campus mandates are unethical
