Quick Explainer:
1. 64GB Game cards are significantly more expensive than discs. You have to price it above $60 given margins.
2. It takes time to ramp up different capacity game cards, so game key cards are main option.
3. Digital games / key cards = higher margin + can price under $60

It's crazy to think Nintendo might be the first of the consoles to truly abandon "real" physical copies of games

Push back on this sort of thing is always good and does no real harm outside of annoying very online indaviduals who see people talk about it a bit too much.
Now Ninendo have jacked up their prices, but some digital purchases are a little cheaper.
Would have I spent $60 on it? Not sure since I still have the 3DS cart.
I did preorder Yakuza 0 DC and RAIDOU at $50. I think that is $10 too much but at least I can sell them when I'm done with them. Digital games you can't resell.
so far Europa and Japan have a diferent price for each one
from nintendo part
Just insane.
I mean, when has that company respected people and their purchases ??????
So when you see "it costs x", that may not be the full story.
There's still the problem of the download and authentication servers eventually going down. But that's a walled garden problem.
(gotta say, my personal opinion is that brings the bad part of the physical with the bad part of the digital. Worst of two worlds)
So a lot of it comes down to
1. Because they can
2. What the market accepts
3. Not willing to lower margin vs other platforms
4. External factors (Tariffs, regulations etc)
5. Increasing cost of game dev.
Switch is a handheld platform that can't use discs. It has to use Micro SD tech, and in the case of Switch 2 it's the newer, faster, and more expensive Micro SD Express tech. That right there is an additional cost vs discs or Switch 1 game cards. Will come down in time (hopefully)
Unnecessary Trump tariffs definitely don't help here.
Those chips can get really hot and inside this console is not much space for heatsinks.
(never had one, just think its cute)
Not gonna happen.
