Not to mention, both methods show you intend to never look at the book again. Why? Because perspectives and thought processes change. In 2 years, are you going to remember why you wrote that word in the margin? Maybe. Maybe not. You’ll spend as much time interpreting yourself as the actual text.

The same people who complain about dog-earing a book seem to be the ones eagerly annotating and highlighting every page to their heart’s content. There’s no difference. Both are damaging. The latter is also outdated with amount of note taking options out there. But hey, what do I know?
