00 Overview Iditarod 2025
Do you hear that?
That's the mapping servers spinning up.
Finally. Grease the bots, we have a race to track!
Well. Tomorroy. Calm down.
But maybe let us use the time to go over some of the basics again.

Yes, this thing is big. That is either the curve of the globe, or the rim of the world, according to whatever you believe. 😬
*-ish. There have been quite a few last-minute changes to the trail which we will only see once the tracker goes live.
"Now hold on", I hear you protest!
"That is not my Iditarod! Where's the Big Bump? Where's the Gorge? Where are these first checkpoints whose names I can never remember? You cannot fool me with your evil fakes! I am a veteran of '19!"
The very gentle decline you see for the first 750 (!) miles? That's the flow of the Tanana and Yukon river.
When the trail reaches Kaltag, it heads south down the river, then loops back to Kaltag again.
This way, the trail still passes the villages on the river.
There will be plenty of time looking for details on the individual checkpoint runs, after all.
The subscription-based (boo!) Iditarod tracker (Insider Ultimate: 39.95USD) is available here.
