This is how a plug was wired on a device I received. Zero strain relief and an over-rated fuse.
I wonder if wiring UK plugs is a skill that is even taught anymore.

TBH this looks like sheer laziness rather than not knowing how to do it
Weirdest part is after he retired everyone that met him would say he was the nicest guy they knew!
I was shown how to wire one in after-school Electronics Club in 1977, where we built our own projects. I made a small electronic organ with stylus, (like a stylophone) using a Tupperware box as the case.
I’d already been shown how to wire a plug by my dad when I was about 11.
Definitely not new, and I bought it knowing that I'd have to fix the plug wiring first.
I don't generally regard myself as having OCD
- until shown photographs like this.
On the other hand correctly cabling / wiring a plug was a skill I was taught at home while very young
- and I don't ever recall being taught it at school in the 80s or 90s either.
Not sure it is laziness because whoever did it soldered the tips of the exposed copper (no idea why).
Even with devices from the 80's when user installed plugs were a thing, any "new" retro needs the plug to be checked first. Because... people.
People.
