How many of these people were NIMBYs about affordable housing? Not to say they deserved it or that the housing wouldn't have also burned. But it's a real "hoisted by my own petard" moment, made worse by people treating "property ownership" as the only path to a decent life.
I just saw the interview with Mark Carney and Jon Stewart.
He came off really well, personable and not a stuffed suit.
Hopefully, if he runs and wins the leadership, that he turns the tables, at least lessens the damage and cuts the possible nonsense of a conservative majority government.
The excuse will be that they had to build back better than it was before so now they can charge more, then the shit places that still exist can charge more too to "meet market expectations."
I know I can’t talk much as someone from NC but sometimes California seems like the most dystopian US state. Like what do you mean you just voted no on abolishing slavery to then have those same slaves (prisoners) help put out fires. Then it’s F them for desiring paid wages. Idk it’s wild
Yeah man I’m aware of that. My thing is that it is scary that California is one of first ever states to be able to fully abolish slavery… and people voted to keep slavery anyway. I agree this is a nationwide problem but now we know even the most progressive state will continue to fail the vulnerable
