My cat is a black and white version of yours, hates being groomed and is currently full of knots. How do you keep Martha looking so un-matted and knot-free?
I’ll be honest with you: it’s no talent of mine. Martha is amazing at grooming herself and loves being brushed. Her brother Bixby (pictured) is useless at grooming and dislikes being brushed. We have to shave matted bits off with an electric pet shaver. In shedding season (now), he looks appalling.
Your two are far more pedigree than Sima (their ears are pretty impressive.) I've tried all kinds of combs, even The Furminator. Despite her ability to clean herself, her long coat defeats her (and me.) I dread to think how she would fight with an electric shaver...I'll have to beg the vet again
I have a glove with a silicone palm with little soft prongs which my cat likes! It gets a surprising amount of 'loose' fur out, but you have to do it three times a week to stop matts forming.
When she did get some difficult matts the vet sedated her and combed her out with great patience.
Mine always behave better for the vet. I have one of those silicone gloves for the resistant cat - was using it today! He really likes it for about five minutes, then gets overexcited and bitey. But I got fluff off amounting to about a tennis ball size in that time, so it’s worth it!
