if something ISNT tagged, that’s another story. but if you see a tag you don’t like and choose to read anyway, or you don’t bother to read the tags and then get triggered by the content, that is not the authors fault. just thought this was worth reiterating 💝

It’s really not difficult! I’ve gone to read fics with a tag that I was unsure about, started reading anyway to see, decided that it wasn’t for me, and stopped reading. Easy peasy. No need to make a fuss or be a jerk to the author.

It's so easy not to be a dick about it, too! If both parties make a reasonable good faith effort there's no reason for it to escalate.

When I was new to posting fics, there were a few times people suggested additional tags, and it was an issue zero percent of the time. It's so easy to be kind.

I've even reached out to an author if there was a tag I was nervous about, and every time, they've shared more context that helped me make a decision. It's not hard to stay away from fics that you know will be upsetting
