But the truth of the matter is that the SMRs are not small, and they are just as “modular” as a CANDU. India builds candu-derived designs cheaper than coal plants.

Cost of producing a kwh isn't equal to cost of electricity.
And subsidies, not nearly as much as RE get's
A system with only RE and storage is very expensive.
Adding to that the peak capacity a system like that needs to be build to.
You need geothermal & Nuclear
What matters is the kwh-cost you or any has to pay when delivered.
Variable RE isn't going to be as cheap as the productions cost it has.
The system cost are the largest component for any user.
Moving away from reliance on the US will continue for decades!
