This is a magnificent piece and copy of the one Sosos made famous almost 300 years before and he was the mosaicist of the equally famous asarotos oikos (unswept floor) mosaic-now also lost, a copy of which is in the Vatican museum, and signed by Heraclitus!

I can't believe that the pics I took with my high-end camera all failed - the focus was off on each one. A devil to photograph, due to the reflective glare of the tesserae. My iPhone had to suffice ... (taken from an angle and straightened, due to glare).

I don't know the average tesserae size, but this mosaic and the one with the theater masks (below) are classic micro-mosaics. Not a ton of those have survived from antiquity, so seeing them is a real treat. They're in the same room at the Palazzo Nuovo (Capitoline Mus).🏺 https://flic.kr/p/2pHxQ6P
