In the room 'room'/included, unpaid work is work, disabled people are not "frank and honest" for literally plainly saying what a situation is (that's the brand name of a coffee, is what I say), disability/disabled are not dirty words, we've a lively culture which should be respected 2/6 #GE2024

Disabled people have always lived a cost of living crisis. There is some notion we've an extra 12 hrs in the day for bureaucratic labour. We don't enjoy privilege of privacy & discretion. Every milestone is tinged with fear. Earlier this year I decided to temporarily step back from activism..3/6

To focus on the completion of my PhD & regain some sense of privacy in my life. I became involved in activism at a national level quite suddenly in 2021 (look up #CatherinesLaw), & while the work that followed was fulfilling, it was exclusively voluntary & I became burned out & had to prioritise 4/6

I would be lying if I said I haven't enjoyed the privacy - but that is my right, and the bare minimum every disabled person deserves. This is something I feel very strongly about, amongst other issues - means-test of disability supports, higher education, housing etc 5/6 #GE2024

On a different note I'm grateful for all of my disabled friends in my life, who I have largely met through online spaces. I never had the opportunity to connect with other disabled folk in a meaningful way growing up. So to have this now in my life means a lot #IDPWD2024 #GE2024. 6/6
