Saw them in Detroit in 21, it was bittersweet. It was tough seeing Phil struggling. I saw them in Detroit in 86 as well (First light of the Invisible Touch tour) so I, sort of, bookends of their "Pop" era.
You’re so fortunate to see them twice! Been a fan since the early 80’s (after Gabriel). My fav album of all time A Trick/Tale - played 1M times. Always listened to the 1st 4 songs w headphones b/4 an exam at uni lol. Didn’t go to the concert solely b/c I didn’t want to see Phil struggling either 🥺.
It never ceases to amaze me that a band that started out as avant garde and out there as you could possibly be ended up making some of the most mainstream, white bread pop music imaginable
If my dog played me Phil Collins Serious Hits Live from Berlin, I'd let her eat whatever she damn well pleased. One of the greatest performances ever put down on VHS.
Looking back, it boggles my mind that someone who looks like Phil Collins was one of the biggest pop stars in the world for the better part of a decade.
I started to say triple threat, but it's more than that: wrote a lot of songs, good singer, decent bandleader, good drummer in other people's bands, acted a little.... I think people really liked working with him.
I think Tony Banks said Phil flat-out worked longer hours & wrote more than he did.

Stuermer, Thompson, Sklar…
Badasses.
Epic
Saw Genesis twice, In 86, opening night in Detroit for Invisible Touch. And 2021 in Detroit. Both epic shows.
