Yeah, an employer can ask you to get a second opinion from a medical provider of their choice, but I don’t think they can deny FMLA leave because of their own (management/HR) opinions about the medical necessity.

You’re entitled to take the time off and get your job back afterwards, but your employer isn’t obligated to pay you during that time (unless you’re using your accrued PTO).
