Well said. I was born with half my hearing and we struggle not only with the practical impact of what our disabilities mean, and systemic barriers, but also the bigotry of ableism at the individual level. Trying to get taken seriously sucks. Thank you for this.

my mother lost her hearing, totally, in one ear and it was shitty in the other.
Realized that hl/deafness is only disability, people feel perfectly fine with openly hostile attitude. fuckin' screamin' impatience.
I'd let them fuckin' have it, but good, when they tried this shit with my ma.

Wow, yes, 100 times. I often used the phrasing "canary" during the early years of my illness while trying to understand why I was suffering when others seemingly weren't. It was just, /not yet/, or /not noticeably/. They are still effected by everything that hurts me just often without realising it.

And my sibling & 1 teen also dealing with debilitating Long covid. It could be ANY of us.

Becoming a mom to disabled kids has been a learning experience. I don’t think people realize it’s the only minority any of us could join at any time. Anything that leaves out the disabled community isn’t worth supporting.

I agree. Same a applies to the mentally and neurologically handicapped. I as someone who has a neurological disability and who has a physical disability can say this happens. I have seen it. Even cuts to public transit are a big impact to the disabled and infirm.
