I'm gobsmacked when people ask, "Why do you care about X if it's not YOU?" It's as if they've never learned empathy or compassion or felt the sense that we're all in this together and have a duty to support one another. Duty to others is seen as chains to shake off instead of bonds we can create:

They’re starting with trans people because they’re an easy mark. They’re a small percentage of the population, many people don’t think they know any trans people and therefore they don’t see it as a “big issue”.  /4

Also erasing trans rights was always about driving a wedge between groups of people, and it didn’t stop there. First they came for trans people, then abortion, then enforcing oppressive gender roles in every context for cis women too, and they’re probably gonna get rid of all gay rights too.
