Because people arnt informed and people lie to get them on there side. If half the people knew what puberty blocker actually were they all would agree because it’s literally what they are asking for. Its reversible and gives time for a child to decide

I wish i had that as a kid my body dysphoria was part of why i was so depressed for so long and because of how little information i had i didnt transition till was older the only regrets i had was not doing it sooner. Not having boobs and being on t has literally taken my suicidal ideation out

A friend insists he knows someone whose 6 yr old was diagnosed as transgender & is on puberty blockers. I tried to explain that no doctor would put a 6 yr old on those meds for being transgender, but he won’t believe me.

I have no idea how you'd start since it should be self evident if a 6 year old is on puberty blockers its for having puberty at 6 years old. I suppose theoretically you could have precocious puberty & be trans but having a puberty to block would obviously the reason for the prescription

My sympathy, it's bad enough when they insist on an elementary school understanding of sex & gender to fail to grasp things a 4 grader would get makes me want to slap them with a "your body & you" pamphlet

I spoke to a *doctor* today who thought the same. Amazingly, even though he was so misled, he was asking questions with curiosity and openness and no judgement. I was able to provide a bit of education, and he was gracious. But it’s alarming how these myths are believed.

Clothes aligned with their identity. Using a gender neutral or bathroom aligned with their gender. Binders or tucking to help with gender dysphoria. Birth control to slow or stop periods. It is not a big deal. Kids deserve to be comfortable in their bodies.

Lots of people think that unfortunately. There’s a terrible amount of misinformation where trans children are concerned.

My friend listened with an open & empathetic mind which is what I had hoped for.

I mean if the kids are well informed and they clearly know what they want, I see nothing wrong with allowing them surgery. Youth liberation being a thing and all, we need to treat children like they CAN decide on gender affirming surgery.

Vision correction surgery also waits until young adult; the eyes are still developing and if they do it too soon it can mess things up. Generally it's more because of that but as a general rule, I completely agree.

Ok but that’s a flawed analogy. You don’t need to wait until adulthood for gender affirming surgeries if, as my post said, the individual demonstrates a clear knowledge and intent that they WANT surgical intervention.

Any surgery should be done as soon as it's safe for the patient to do so, I agree. Women have to jump through too many hoops to remove reproductive organs, and trans people have to jump through too many hoops to show they know who they are.
