Sort of true for Canada too. Though much better prospects. But spoke to a US colleague who just relocated to Ontario - MDs also getting squeezed there. Easier licensing requirements in Ontario and Nova Scotia certainly help.

The issue for US doctors moving to the UK is primarily an economic one. Many MDs have massive amounts of school debt in US dollars ($200-400K). The NHS pays about 1/2 to 1/6 less than MDs can earn in the US. That, plus the unfriendly healthcare system for non-citizens. Just doesn't make sense.

Those of us with complex chronic illness already know how hard it is to access competent, safe care.

HCWs are burned out and many are dealing with Long COVID themselves (including possible cognitive impairment).

If we don’t start addressing this, what will care look like in another 5 years?

In the late 90s, my mom accidentally stuck herself with a needle from a TB patient. She was exhausted and had been working a ridiculous number of nights in a row. I cannot imagine what it’s like for folks now.

Burn out in the medical field is real and terrifying. I've seen nurses talking about a total collapse of medical systems in the next few years.(Probably sooner in the US)
I really wish we could find a way to accommodate our healthcare workers to keep them safe and compensate them better overall.

I'd also give anything for a treatment or cure for MECFS as it seems like an awful lot of people are suffering from it now. Given our healthcare workers were exposed to Covid numerous times already it's no wonder stories like this are on the rise. 😥

Agreed. I really thought we might see a cure (or at least better treatments) when it became clear that millions were getting Long Covid. I really thought the number would be too big to ignore.
