Question: when you get a book cover assignment/job, do they ask you to read the book to get an idea of what you will out I. The cover? Perhaps you do that in your own? I have just always wondered about this.
They don't ask to read the book, so it's up to the artist βΊοΈ usually it's hard to fit the reading time into the deadline anyway. But I recently started reading books for which I create covers. I buy them online or ask the client if they can share the e-book copy.
The book covers are what drew me into the books and Iβve read/have all - but I didnβt know about the Demonβs Queen! I always check my local bookstores (new/thrift) for any new books of this series, and am now going to see if I can get it off her website!
I don't normally read romance, I'm more of a SFF reader who likes romance as the B plot instead of the main course, but these would tempt me to at least look at the blurb or flap.
I think the first one is the most viral at the moment. I remember doing some sketches with the dragon guy while painting it, trying to come up with the design.
I was literally just showing my partner your covers the other day and telling them how they minded me of romance covers in the 80s/90s. They are truly beautiful π

"Its about a giant cartoon lizard fighting"
"And my craft shall be perfect."
Should have asked Katee if there could be like, one book that was "The Nice Ladies Lovely Day Where Nothing Imprisoned Her."
