Fascinating and important work. Thinking about how to combat similar biased conception of how addiction/recovery is depicted and perceived in public spaces. Would love to talk about ways to humanize these conditions..

We explored how gen AI visually depicts common psychiatric diagnoses. Many of these AI-generated images reflect harmful stereotypes, cultural biases, and outdated visual tropes. AI is increasingly shaping public perceptions of mental health and these biases can perpetuate stigma and misinformation.

Collaboration between clinicians, policymakers, and AI developers is key to creating responsible AI tools. This work may also offer new research opportunities into perceptions of mental disorders and suggest ways of counteracting stigma and misinformation.
