Signing off Social Media for the next 9 days. Hag sameach for those who observe Passover and Happy Easter for those who celebrate Easter.

Thanks @liebschutz.bsky.social! It's my always my goal to make formulas and statistics make sense to everyone 😊

When a statistician puts up a formula and then proceeds to explain it in a way I could understand. 🔥🔥🔥.Kim Webb! @pittgim.bsky.social

Whoever designs the on-off switch for hotel bedside lamps must have first worked for escape rooms. Took me about 10 minutes of investigation!

"NIH is given till April 8 ... for a 35% cut in services." This isn't entirely correct, and it matters enormously for getting NIH science done. A quick 🧵: 1/ - NIH has many scientists, many senior, who work as contract employees. www.statnews.com/202... 🧪

Grieving for the loss of what I thought would be a stable presence in public health and addiction policy and research - NSDUH, SAMHSA, NIH, CDC. While this is indeed a reorganization, you can’t get back the institutional/substantive knowledge and human relationships essential to functional systems

My goodness- all the infrastructure for supporting addiction treatment gone in one fell swoop. This will not make America Health Again. behavehealth.com/blog/2025/3/...

Some exciting DGIM news in here - like @liebschutz.bsky.social & @drewinstanley.bsky.social having their #AppalachianNode UG1 renewed! This grant helps improve patient outcomes for those with a #SubstanceUseDisorder.

On addiction medicine consult service this week- patient arrested for missing court day last month (non-violent, low level crime) because was hospitalized for cardiac issues- now readmitted with a chest tube draining >1 liter of fluid- and CHAINED TO HER BED; wearing SHACKLES to work with PT. 1/2

Hearing the amazing @lizchiarello.bsky.social speaking at Pitt Law

What is cheering me up today

So many excellent science was canceled this week. Devastating a generation of scientists and leaving our country bereft of studies that might help the most vulnerable among us.

Looking forward to @lizchiarello.bsky.social visit to Pitt next week. In the meantime, listen to a masterful interview by @stefankertesz.bsky.social on this podcast onbecomingahealer.libsyn.com/caring-for-p...

Can anyone translate this poster for me? I ordered it to support some cause but can’t remember what it was for! It is quite lovely. I am pretty sure it is Ukrainian.

Why couldn’t I reach PubMed through Pitt library for the last 5 days? Because my Zotero extension proxy settings needed to be unchecked. If you have a similar problem, you don’t need to spend 30 minutes on the phone with IT….thanks to the library data team who helped me figure it out!

When you are way overdue for a haircut and your hairdresser texts you 2 hrs before your appointment to say they are not feeling well and need to cancel. Argh!!!

Is ERA commons website down for others too? And pubmed?

Last day of Black History month posting- books that bring to light the legacy of slavery and continued systemic racism- Horse is a great read focused on an enslaved groomsman and his champion racehorse Lexington in Civil War and the 21st legacy including the danger Black men still face.

For Black history month and to elevate dialogue on systemic racism, I am posting thought provoking books to understand systemic racism. James McBride’s poignant novel about relationship between a Jewish family and a Black community weaves antisemitism and racism and redemption together.

Continuing to post for Black History Month and elevating dialogue on systemic racism. This eye opening account of how the justice system is biased against Black individuals is a must read. Slavery->Lynching->Jim Crow->mass incarceration. Visit @eji.org in Montgomery if you can.

If you are in Pittsburgh on 3/7, this is the place to be. I will be in mid-air flying back to town but will be there in spirit! And look forward to seeing posts on Bluesky about it.

Post-grant writing EPIC inbox cleanup (got to catch it when I can!)

If you would like a follow back, introduce yourself and something you are passionate about. Let’s make this a community with meaningful interactions and to be seen and known. Me= passionately researching and caring for individuals who use substances or in recovery & general internal medicine.

Continuing my posts in honor of Black History Month and to support dialogue on structural racism, today is Jill Lepore‘s book on the history of the United States. A Harvard history professor, she eloquently lays out the case for slavery’s fundamental role in US history.
