Even though they are a very small team, they have already achieved so much and still communicate with people, mainly on Discord. I think they deserve a big boost. This will be a huge opportunity for Datadog as well

They have pulled off quite the coup -- agreed, totally. I think quickwit has proven to be very impressive tech, I won't be uninstalling it from my infrastructure anytime soon. But also, I'm curious if I can keep running this worldclass solution in the long run without future updates.
I'm not sure it will "succeed" like ES as a single alternative solution, but I can at least be sure it won't disappear. Various competitors based on Tantivy will threaten ES' position in various cases, and Quickwit will continue to be mentioned as one of them. Like already is.
I don't think datadog has any interest in supporting an open core competitor to their money maker. And without the dedicated hardwork of the founders, things will wither away.
I'm pretty sure I'm a harbinger user at this point!
I can't see into their thoughts, but if they weren't really interested, the team would never have joined. Seems not like "exit" move. I believe that Datadog was not the only good offer for that.
I noticed quickwit has tigress slowing down, the discord wasn't super active, and the quickwit enterprise feature wasn't getting much publicity. I thought it was all over. The relicensing is nice. Maybe the community will take over.
I'm glad they don't have to worry anymore about unappealing enterprise features. Frankly, most open core is terrible. It constantly prevents tech founders from focusing on more important things. Finding sustainability is important, but open core is a compromise that is far from the vision.
They had a bold vision for an all-in-one OTEL infrastructure, metrics, analytics engine, etc. Perhaps some of it was the result of being too focused on competing with ES. It would be a great time to find the center again through collaboration with Datadog.
