Agreed. People introduced that ridiculous word to get around even more ridiculous social media censorship. We all k ow exactly what it means, so the use of unalive is now completely pointless. (Also the autocensors are so flawed they once banned a post where I used the term Death Metal πΈ)
If anyone said it to me in general speech I would stop talking to them. It's used solely to keep videos up. If people extend it beyond that then that's their problem
Real talk, "unalive" sounds Orwellian in the same vein as "double plus not good" or whatever linguistic gymnastics ppl are expected to do to make language palateable and non-offensive, even when talking about unpalateable things.
It's not about how WE feel about it. It's about platforms like YouTube and others that will take down videos or age restrict or demonize the video if certain keywords are used. The algorithm used for reports also can't tell the difference between talking about something or threatening someone
We should stop using those platforms or implement systems which skirts youtube monetization. I'd be a creator's patron just to hear them say fuck. YT sponsor deals are 99% trash anyway and personally I don't want that dirty money or crap product they want me to promote.
That's fair. We all gotta stand by our business. Sadly it is the only income some creators have, and some are telling important stories that shouldn't be suppressed just because YT and the like can't be bothered to recognize the difference between discussion and threats against others.
"They ended their life" is a flagged phrase, amazingly enough. But part of the absurdity IS protest. Saying "self deletion" in a true crime podcast (as an example) isn't about people not knowing better alternatives. It's a subtle protest of "yeah, we think censored speech is stupid too"
It's due to filters. You used to get violence warnings if you used it on Facebook and it can flag your videos if you say it in the audio of a YouTube video. It has nothing to do with people "Being Pussies" as you so eloquently put it.
there are other alternatives! I've heard a few good ones that dance around it but doesn't sound disrespectful, although I can't really remember them rn
I get it when itβs used to pass filters but using it in a very obviously mature discussion completely shatters any respect I had for any given person
here is my counter point to the "content creators gotta censor themselves for the platforms they upload to" there are always better and more respectful alternatives (and less cringe but that's completely subjective) and if it's really that bad they should probably avoid the topic
honestly yeah great point I don't know why that's the word that's been chosen as the default at this point
not to mention. pretty sure there's both better ways of censoring it and also not a need to because I've seen at least 1 channel talk about murder and death often without censoring themselves.
I think it can be dumb to use regularly, but unfortunately some content creators don't get a real choice. Kill, die, and suicide are all words easily picked up by bullshit moderation algorithms and, depending on the platform, gets stuff taken down, demonitized, or reported.
It stems from whatever almighty algorithm people contend with, of which there are many, that will punish you for not using softer language.
It's not because people are cringe.
tiktok popularized the term and that platform let's actual nudity slip by so I don't think that's correct. there's always a better less disrespectful alternative to use
It's far easier to filter words than anatomy.
Either way, respect has nothing to do with it. Your problem stems from people being censored, not the people twisting to avoid it.
Think "unalive" would be as popular if all word rules were lifted?
that's where my main issue comes from it bc there are other ways to word it without it sounding so unserious especially should take the extra effort to make it sound serious if you plan on making money off of it
I have been shouting this from rooftop for months! Glad I'm not alone in this annoyance. I understand there are censorship reasons but, there are other ways and 2. If someone said that about me after my attempt I would have come back to slap them in the face. Not saying it is more disrespectful IMO
