Then we are asked to send money with the kids for:

1. Book fair
2. Weekly Friday treat fundraisers
3. Holiday gift boutique

…all to support the various above funds.

And then I got emails from the class moms with a list of things each teacher likes for individual gifts (ie in addition to the communal gift) and suggested amounts for gift cards.

I also got emails from the class moms asking for item donations for the holiday parties that we were asked to donate money for, as well as a call for volunteers to set up, shop, staff, and clean up the parties.

We have one half day every Wednesday, a solid week of half days each semester during conferences, plus a 5 day mid-semester break in the fall and spring (during which many families go on vacation to Hawaii and ski resorts.)

We also have half days the first and last day of school, the day before each holiday break (Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break). Plus 2 staff in-service days a semester where the kids are just off.

There are a total of 4 weeks of theme dress up a year. A family picnic every semester (but with different lunch times depending on grade).

This is our first year of kindergarten for our oldest and I thought it was just me trying to wrap my head around all of this. It’s wild out here.
