How fast does the UK's heat pump market need to grow?
tldr: very.
Recent increases in heat pump installs are definitely going in the right direction.
(btw I've extrapolated installs to estimate how many heat pumps will be installed the rest of 2024)

The UK government a while ago set a target for 600,000 per year, a number they're sticking with.

Here's a projection. Given we're at about 60,000, reaching 600,000 by 2028 needs a sustained growth rate of around *80%* per year.
Support for upfront costs is non-negotiable, efforts to drive boiler manufacturers to make heat pumps are laudable (though now watered down and feel a bit limp), but what else is needed to boost and sustain growth? A PLAN. Or: rather, lots of plans!
But these need to graduate from technical exercises to central planks of mass deployment. Keep our homes warm as the country transitions out of gas.
