Fiona Collie from the Carers Scotland team was interviewed today on Good Morning Scotland and spoke about how a minimum income guarantee could improve the lives of carers. Catch up with the piece here (segment starts at 11:24): www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

Climate Horizon conference -- can AI help tackle fuel poverty through the transition? Perhaps some AI can make cost and energy efficiencies. But its a steep hill to climb for that to convincingly deal with the twin facts of persistent inequality and the investment cost of the heat transition.

I’m going to “Climate Horizons 2040” conference at Edinburgh University today in the roll of “keynote listener”(?!). The state of the climate and of our efforts to protect it have never seemed so bleak. We need an almighty gear shift if we’re going to stop the harms getting even worse.

New year, new you? We're currently recruiting for two new roles! - Digital and Media Officer - Researcher (international policy) Find out how to apply here 👇

📻Different parts of policy and regulation across devolved and reserved powers should work together as a well-oiled machine in the development of wind projects. @davehawkey.bsky.social speaks on BBC Radio Scotland about his brand new report with @joshemden.bsky.social #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy

The good news is: for full time employees the gender pay gap in Scotland is almost zero. But for all employees the gap is still 9.2%. The difference is the jobs work men and women do (part time vs full time), with roots in the gender imbalance in childcare. spice-spotlight.scot/earnings-in-...

Thought provoking research from @sachahilhorst.bsky.social on ex mining towns in England. Not left behind but subjects of failed experiments that have resulted in exploitative employers and political disaffection. www.common-wealth.org/publications...

Ailsa Henderson’s polling finds voters in Scotland are far less angry than in England. This quote about nostalgia is really thought provoking… www.thetimes.com/article/bdfc...

How fast does the UK's heat pump market need to grow? tldr: very. Recent increases in heat pump installs are definitely going in the right direction. (btw I've extrapolated installs to estimate how many heat pumps will be installed the rest of 2024)

Investment in public services is needed to reverse decades of cuts www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/politic...

i thought of it and then had no choice but to draw it

Bad news for the transition to clean heat. Scottish advice service apparently being cut due to lack of demand. A voluntarist approach to this collective action problem is a steep hill to climb. A coordinated street-by-street retrofit campaign is hard but needed. www.scotsman.com/news/politic...

Earth is likely to have its hottest year on record – again NASA’s top climate scientist says the planet is being tested and ‘we have not yet passed that test’.
