Yes exactly! This is the kind of thing we need to pull the weaker ones to our side. The ones who are starting to doubt him.

PLUS we won't lie to them! We really do want all of America to have rights and freedom and have quality of life!

I wish there were a better way to say it than "weaker" but it's accurate. When I started seriously doubting, during the Obama years, it weakened my resolve that our way was THE way. I had a couple of friends who had already "got woke" who took every chance to tell me the truth, kindly and patiently.

I also don't go out in public more than necessary and this is my only social media, I left the rest. So I have very few interactions with maga, I try to handle the occasions well but keep them to a minimum. I'm lucky to have a life that allows that.

I’m petty, though.
I live in a blue district, in a blue city in a red state.
Important thing is to never engage them on the topic they want to talk about.
Their “what aboutisms” are traps so they can segue to their memorized talking points.

Fellow Petty LaBelle here. I am in a blue city and state but only recently. My first 46 yrs were in red areas with a very red Evangelical extended family. I used to find ways to have civil conversations but I’ve been burned so many times. I mostly just cut myself off from family at this point.

Hey, no shade. There is definitely a time and place to hold that big ol mirror straight up in their face, absolutely!!!!! We need a variety of tactics but sometimes we have to remember that the goal is to help them see the truth and it was my gentle patient friends who rescued me from Fundy world.

I figure the more we share tactics the better. Just read a random strangers story about how to boldly and gracefully handle a beloved band playing a racist song and filed her tactic away in my memory just in case I need it sometime. The more we share the more we all know.

This strategy also gives them a way to save face and say, "well I supported him, but he LIED to us, so now I can change my mind." It gives them an out without heading to feel "stupid" or"wrong"

Yes. Also it reminds them of your humanity too. They've been taught for decades to fear and hate Democrats. Any chance to briefly remind them of the ways we are in this together is good. If they ever understood that this is mostly a class war with a side hustle of culture war for distraction...

I'll keep saying it: this works because of the connection and because shame *doesn't* work. I don't understand why the con worked to begin with, but people fall for scams and definitely more often than they care to admit. So it's like saying, "It's ok. We all mess up."

For me it helps that for most of my adult life I was part of the hard right ecosystem and raised my kids in that world. So I know how deliberately dumb they are acting because I used to do it too. I don't know how to describe the tribalism and fear they use to control people. It's a cult.

It's difficult for me. I was raised in it, ex "born again", so I didn't act hateful bc I wanted to be mean, I did it bc I copied my parents. My upbringing was not so great, so the negative attention I received trolling was amusement for me-no attention was bad attention, except no attention at all.

I woke up when I branched out in high school and college, took sociology, philosophy, and psychology. The more I learned, the more I realized. As a child, I was acting out due to neglect and emotional/psychological abuse. These are grown folks bleeding their hate all over us.

I understand and my story is the inverse! I grew up semi feral, a true 80s teen with a single mom holding down too many jobs to keep up with her headstrong daughter. As a mom in my 20s I wanted structure, rules, community and I thought the SBC looked pretty good for that. Things got weird.
