My favorite piece of art is American Gothic; Grant Wood saw a gothic window on a carpenter-style house and painted in spite.
According to his biographer, Mr. Wood "thought it a form of borrowed pretentiousness, a structural absurdity, to put a Gothic-style window in such a flimsy frame house".
And of course, we still have wood carvers and oil painters and marble sculptors even though we also have 3D modelers and photographers and 3D printers. The set of mediums available is growing! And the bar in each new medium goes up.

When Photoshop came out, lab based photographers thought it couldn't be art.
Humans driving new tools will always be artists, and humans shunning new tools will fade away.
I know good artists who make good art with generative AI as a component, or even as a medium.
But if they don't put in the work to learn the medium and then actually push it to its limits, yeah, the lack of effort will be obvious!
Just like my cell phone snapshot is not great photography, someone typing "beautiful sunset" at a chat bot won't be making great images.
But some people are awesome with a cell phone camera!
