What we all need to do is go to walm, load up our grocery carts with refrigerated food, then just leave them in an aisle somewhere. Not just not spending, but actively costing them money.
Depends where you live, and no judgement you have to feed yourself! I shop at Costco and grocery outlet. Some items at food coops and some at farmers markets. Very occasionally Safeway. I’m also lucky because my spouse works for a farmer owned produce distributor so we get stuff through that too.
I will be shopping there tomorrow so this makes me feel better! Same with OP - way chips fall. Got paid and have no food in my place so it needs to happen.
Yes, look how many here are making excuses about why they can't shop another day or make coffee at home one day. Wait until full on fascism comes around. Wait until coffee tariffs start soon. 🙄
Thanks for the list! I'm going to instruct everyone I know to double up on supporting these businesses. You know, to cancel out your stupid boycott. MAGA
I’m Canadian. We’re banding together here and fighting our own fight against the Trump administration. Not sure how unions are in the US but in Canada they aren’t necessary because we have such great federal and provincial laws that protect us.
The Unions here are for profit and will often come in and negotiate worse pay for the employees for their union dues and have little benefit. To be clear I think unions were the best thing to happen to employees just not in the last 10 years or so.
Stop buying from those places completely. They aren't the best deals anymore anyway. You're addicted to the convenience. Make the list as big as you can manage and stick to it. Those companies weren't always there and if you can help the people in your community it's better all around.
You certainly do! 💙🙏🏼 I read a post where an average guy was saying that he had more freedom and power than any of the billionaires because he could tell Donald Trump to F off and they could never do that!
I plan to pick up repaired shoes from an independent repair shop. we are also going to a local Mexican restaurant (not a chain). Otherwise, I'm not spending money tomorrow.
I opted out for the last week because I don’t have enough money to make to the end of month. I had crackers for dinner tonight.
So I guess I’m in. 🤷♀️
Yes, but…Why just economic stoppage? Agencies with critical missions are being sabotaged. Shouldn’t they stop all operations in interest of public safety?
this is to send a message, that they aren't that vital for everybody
if enough peoples are able to get by without them within a day
it will mean that there peoples that could get by without them for longer, like weeks, month and years,
I forgot to pick up chicken stock for a meal I’m prepping for tomorrow 🤦🏻♀️ however, I will look to get it from my local North Gate Gonzalez supermarket! (they are a CA chain but they are Mexican family-owned and always very kind in there 😊).
Most gas stations are franchises, owned by local businesses. A boycott would directly impact their sales but only minimally affect large oil companies profits
i haven’t been able to protest and pay attention to politics much at all lately because my cat got sick early january. i’ve been having to buy things from large companies without even thinking about if they’re a good company or not because i need to buy what’s best for her and her qol
i’m thankful for this protest because it makes me feel like i can still do something. i might not be able to cut down on spending for quite a while, but i can do one day. and hopefully she continues stabilizing so i can do more as well soon
What I was thinking, this needs to be longer than one day. If we're aiming for big corporations'pockets then the goal should be to keep the boycott going long-term. The longer the boycott the more money they lose, and that's a win for us. That will spark a change for sure.
I fully support this and will be participating in tomorrow's outage. But let's not inadvertently screw over locally-owned businesses e.g., coffee shops, cafes, bookstores, etc. Already hard enough for them.
The only thing I have to do is Groceries and very limited. Other than that I am holding out. I am paycheck to paycheck with a family of four. I get paid Fridays. 🤷🏻
That's what all the Negative Nellys don't understand. I have family participating in tomorrow's boycott who have never protested anything. You are building engagement and will.
I’m in but I wish we would go after one retailer at a time. Imagine if everyone boycotted Walmart for a day and their sales dropped by 30 to 40%. That would get people’s attention.
Then keep doing it. Go cold turkey. All streaming, Amazon, Tesla, etc. I’ve been homeless with kids, a lot of people would be shocked to find out how you can live without a whole lot you’ve convinced yourselves you can’t. We made billionaires, let’s unmake them. The alternative is horrific.
You will likely become one of the true warriors that will end this mess. The greatest leaders have come from near absolute squalor and you're no different. I give great deal of respect for your bravery
Just one day? Next month, a week? Quit spending! esp Amazon & Walmart. The layoffs are growing & won't stop. Too many Americans are living paycheck to paycheck to survive mass layoffs. The clock is running out. To make a dent we have to invoke an anti consumption movement, stop feeding billionaires.
And no Facebook! Don't post a thing. Don't click a link anywhere for products of any kind. Zuckerfuck depends on ads and such building revenue, I could be wrong but he can't milk it if nobody uses the app 🤷♂️
Liberals will keep losing elections if this pathetic garbage is all they have. They're going to continue to, and already have gotten us stuck in a permanent fascism.
My only hope at this point is that they let me see these weak Liberals get taken to the gas chambers before it's my turn.
So let me get this right...you say its an economic blackout, but in case of emergency, you can break the blackout and if one absolutely has to break the blackout, then thats ok too, just as long as you do so at local establishments? Yeah.
Do you ever wonder why the Dem Party is in shambles?
There are no words for how I feel about what 💩47💩, EM, Miller, Vought…are doing. Besides threatening our constitutional integrity, they fail to appreciate the service of our federal workers, prioritize excellence in our institutions, or care about our humanitarian role in the world.💔 LET’S PROTEST
One day boycotts are ineffective if all we do is buy the stuff the day before or the day after. We need to have ongoing boycotts. It took years of boycotting grapes for the UFW to be heard. Boycotts are long term commitments.
We’re so typically us we can’t even boycott without being assholes. Participate if you are able. The only thing that doesn’t work, is doing nothing at all. If you can look at long term spending changes do that.
I had a hand-wringing friend say "but what can I do? I'm only one person". And the answer is ANYTHING. Anything you do contributes to the greater good. And it sure beats doing nothing.
If you’re planning to participate in this economic blackout, you should also block automatic payments by locking your credit cards/bank accounts for the day.
It’s today, 2/28. Seems you might be ok. Just don’t buy anything you don’t need (except POC-owned, or, ex., a local Mexican grocery) till midnight Saturday.
The point of this day is to show them our economic power. People will shop the day prior and day after. The businesses will be okay but they will see what can happen if we do this for longer periods. This is just one of many blackouts. I hope we make our point.
Instead of people looking for a way to compensate so they can help the cause, they are reading the fine print and using the way out. Because it's more convenient. Chump and broligarchs are counting on you. This is why he wins.
Voting with your dollar and clicks can be effective when targeting industries, products, brands, or owners. Tesla is taking a hit in Germany. Should be interesting to see if markets react.
A) voting with your dollars is meaningless in late stage capitalism, B) a one-day blackout on purchases wouldn’t be a meaningful way of voting with your dollars even if it was possible to do so meaningfully
americans acting like not being little treatlers for one day is going to make a difference. absolutely pathetic. organize your labor. sitting on your ass and not ordering door dash and amazon is not revolutionary.
ok liberal. i hope you can survive not ordering door dash tomorrow. also: breaking news! liberal gets feelings hurt when someone says something real to them on the internet.
it is an ok start but it will never not make me laugh that the best thing americans come up with is just not being little treatlers for one day. you can organize. you can join us at protests. you can join the DSA— sadly the best org we have here at the moment. i recommend those actions.
The very end….. if you just buy from local.. ummm… that should be top of the list. Local small business is struggling so, let’s focus a bit more on that. Thanks
Not just one day for me! I cancelled Amazon on inauguration day and will boycott any and all companies or products supporting this coup. Democracy deserves more than one day. This includes all stocks in any companies either. I have liquidated my stock portfolio of traitors to democracy!!
This is our problem. We finance them with our endless spending. Trade, barter, share, shop second hand stores and stop endless spending starve these shitbag oligarchs to oblivion. They only understand money so give them as little of your hard earned money as possible!!!
Sorry, but there's Zero chance this amounts to jack shit. When the majority of people are too apathetic to even vote, how the hell do you expect people to commit to this?
I think the women of this country should take a solid week off. No working, shopping, driving, cleaning, cooking. Sit on the couch for a solid week & do nothing. It’s a double whammy. Boycott corps, w the added bonus of a big fuck you to the patriarchy.
It's practice man. Why take a 10 minute walk when you need to get in shape? People participate more in activism when they develop a habit. Personally my friends and I have been reducing or eliminating buying from these places and finding different stores to get necessities long term.
I’m ready. Let’s go. Just makes me sad how many will claim they’re doing it but won’t. There should be ZERO people in drive-thru getting coffee in the morning! Not one! COME ON!
Well, in my case I have old Starbucks gift card so they are actually losing money by giving me my drink. Even more so bc I get 5 cents for taking my own thermos. So I’m debating going.
REMEMBER IF YOU EVER DO ENTER TARGET OR WALMART. FILL YOUR CART WITH COSTLY PERISHABLE ITEMS AND FORGET (LEAVE) YOUR CART IN HARD TO SEE WARM AREAS! @alans1.bsky.social HATES FASCISTS!
And @ruairidubh.bsky.social & @porridgedrawers.bsky.social says (good follows!)
May I ask what the long-term point of this is supposed to be? Is this to show billionaires like Jeff Bezos we don’t need them? Just wondering. Thanks in advance!
Has anyone drafted a letter to the corporations explaining why we're boycotting, so that we can flood their mailboxes? I think this 2 pronged approach will add more effectiveness. They won't know that I didn't spend money at their store, but by receiving the letter, they'll know.
It’s only the beginning, and meanwhile many ppl have already spontaneously stopped buying non-essentials except from POC- or liberal-owned businesses. We’re grown and we know this moment requires all we’ve got. Takes just 3.5% of us (Google Erica Chenoweth’s TED Talk).
Cash for dinner at a family-owned store-front market. Cash for a movie at a Landmark theater plus cash for a large popcorn. Hope Landmark is okay with all of you 'cause I do rely on them.
While I understand the intent of this thing, which comes around every year or so, I'm always amused. What impact do you expect to make? Everyone who needs or wants something on Friday, who observes the boycott, will simply wait until Saturday to go out and buy what they were going to buy on Friday.
Keep in mind small, local businesses can be just as MAGAt as the billionaire corporations. Sometimes you need a sixth sense for that. One day sends a message, but sustaining it is key. No Bezos, Waltons, Zuckerberg or that Shelon creep. We've ripped that band-aid clean off already.
Mexicans watch Univision and it’s all lies. They don’t have access to many reasonable points of view due to language barrier. Wear your liberal merch like Democrats buttons and shop at their groceries and eat at their restaurants.

But I will be buying it all cash at Kroger which has doubled down on their DEI initiatives.

They don't repair sneakers, just shoes. It is important to support your local businesses always.
We are just supposed to make money, buy stuff, pay taxes, and adjust to living in a fascist state...oh and shut up.
call ALL of your reps & AGs until their voicemails are FULL

Amazon: Enjoy the day sulking. We'll see you when you're back on March 1st.
This is worth doing.
Retailers obsessively track daily sales; they *will* notice our (in)action.
I will be paying cash for everything.
Vote with your dollars every day. All year long.
Bezos doesn’t deserve my $.
America is the land of consumption and consumerism.
I'm poor so this is going to be easy for me.
My only hope at this point is that they let me see these weak Liberals get taken to the gas chambers before it's my turn.
Do you ever wonder why the Dem Party is in shambles?
Like you fuckers were supposed to boycott the Superbowl
Now if I had money to buy dog food and human food before I would
That is to say, do we get double-bubble for one day's action?
Refusing to work/mass theft would work a lot better as well.
Still think yr a swell guy and yr heart is in the right place though.
I quit shopping at the bad ones from now on and only shop the good ones.
One day of pain is not enough for them. As you know the MAGA fucks will go out and spend triple tomorrow. But they won’t all year.
Just say no to the bad ones!
The only way is to get in to the streets of every major city.

To go even further protest in public outside of private properties. Do direct action, mutual aid, and coalition build defense in your community.
Life is complex, power is complex. Strike is blunt and stupid.
The entire country would collapse in 24hrs.
summary: money talks.
You'll just buy it on Saturday 🤣
I should have all my supplies anyway. Groceries can wait til Saturday if need be.
