Its byzantine — intentionally so. When Tennesseans have paid their debts to society, they ought to be able to restore their rights in a consistent, dignified manner — not one that is only available in to an arbitrary few, and not one that burns through valuable resources.

The 6th Circuit will hear oral argument in a lawsuit challenging Tennessee’s method for restoring voting rights to individuals with prior felony convictions. Civil rights groups allege that the policy is “unequal, inaccessible, opaque, and error-ridden.”
