I have to wonder whether it's something to do with more pressure from external sources but also just the apparently excessive amounts of data that seem to be required in some settings. It shouldn't be the case that core teaching activities like planning have to be farmed out 'because workload'. 🤷‍♀️ - ThreadSky

Interesting. I wonder if it’s technology? I presume as a maths teacher 20 years ago, you’d plan some examples that you’d model live on an old fashioned board then set work from a textbook. That’s how I remember being taught. Now, we’re preparing slide decks or smart notebooks etc for each lesson

Yes I'd agree. My thought is that it's the technology that has caused more workload. Ironic that more technology is being positioned as the 'answer'.

Photocopiers in every school caused more problems than they solved. Everything started to be planned to complete on a worksheet. I never used worksheets as a young teacher.

Yes to all those things that weren't in place, and yes to hard but not unmanageable.
I think workload went down a bit after the Workload Challenge thing, now back up, but impact wasn't ever like rolling the clock back.
