I know it’s possibly the least controversial take of all time but Marquee Moon is really a perfect record, isn’t it? Just a glorious little world of its own.

I was almost nervous to listen to it for the first time given its stellar reputation, but I've never been more impressed by a canonical classic album. Just astonishing.
I know so many people who hate this record and for me that underlines the problem of the unfathomability of other people's consciousness, as it's *clearly* unimpeachable; perfect in every respect.
For me it’s always been how the music comes together as a whole that appeals to me so much about MM… The guitars, yeah, I do understand where folk come from, but in isolation you can make the case for an album from ‘78 that had a far more dramatic impact on “guitar” than MM… different genre…
One of those albums I’ve heard of (best album of all time lists, etc…) but for some reason never got around to listening to - listened to it tonight, and yes, it’s pretty wondrous stuff!
Funnily enough, I have a kind of synaesthetic reaction to the word 'perfect', which automatically makes the opening bars of Venus start playing in my head. The aural equivalent of the delicate, dovetailing workings in a Swiss watch.
