i wonder if this latest decision is driven by Nats leadership having had enough of the Liberals' shit, or if it's more about there finally being enough support in their base to feel confident in separating
painting your political pact as an alliance of convenience allows shifting blame between prongs, but also seeds inevitable demand for divestiture from your base. I'd lean more towards the latter too tbh, but once you've hit a point of acceleration it blurs which is the chicken and which is the egg
