Without these review panels meeting, the science CANNOT happen.

These are some of the NIH "study sections" that were planned for 2025 but did not meet (study sections are panels of experts who review research grant applications to ensure only the best science gets funded)

We can’t allocate grant $s that way (legally) - and judging the worthiness of a proposal for funding, is the whole point of the review panel :(

Just curious - couldn't people - maybe not ones that assign grant dollars etc - but perhaps reviewing and discussing data such as vaccine review committees -continue to meet at someone's house the same as a group of friends would meet?

We can! And we have many informal groups that are talking about this. But it will be difficult to get vaccine decisions made using only informal mechanisms. There needs to be a final authoritative decision-maker. (Which has traditionally been the government.)

Excellent! I'm so glad to hear it. Fully agree that we need some final "this is what is recommended based on science" but at least people are still meeting. If I can help in any way (not an expert, but ID physician) let me know:)
