One of my top priorities as an attending is to encourage my learners to make as many clinical decisions as possible using their own brains (and resources).
Sometime the best way to do that is to give them what I think of as ‘gutter guards,’ like in bowling.

Sometimes they tell me right then, sometimes we end the conversation there and I just trust them to decide.
