Agreed on "beyond the existing posture", but I don't think it's viable (or even desirable) to match Russia 1:1 on personnel (many of whom are, from what we've heard, glorified human shields)—at least some part of that ought to be matched by better training, equipment, logistics, technology etc.
Definitely. The defending side doesn't need numerical superiority but the sheer geographical size of the potential front and a sea in between requires depth and redundancies.
