Yay!

Teaching that controversial practices were "for a time" in the past only is a rhetorical and psychological device to create distance between us and the practice.

That makes it easier for us to hold space for reevaluating our beliefs & traditions about it, to exercise some faith.

If Oaks and Nelson are eternal polygamists, then why do they allow for women to be sealed to multiple husbands--after death only?

I submit that it implies that their "they can work it out on the other side" belief is *stronger* than their belief in Brighamite eternal polygyny. (2/2)

Therein lies the problem. A woman cannot give consent to multiple husband sealings. They’re required to be dead.
A woman may give consent to being sealed to one man only in this life.

What’s the point of the sealing keys if it will all be taken care of in the afterlife?

They gutted the story. Removed like half of it. Now it just reports sparse facts about people living the commandment, it being illegal, and God rescinding the commandment through Woodruff. Turns out we're not really fully ready to talk about it, after all, perhaps.

"Do you support or promote any teachings, practices, or doctrine contrary to those of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?" gets harder to answer the older I am. "I think polygamy is false doctrine and that the priesthood ban is the church's greatest sin. Does that count?"

In my last TR interview I answered yes to the question about association with anyone who opposed the church. The counselor was flustered and I said “my wife” (she’d left the church a few months earlier) He then said that doesn’t count. I notice they don’t ask that question anymore.

Yep, he said it. A few months earlier that bishopric watched my wife walk out of a sacrament meeting for the last time, during a SP counselor talk when he said “It isn’t good enough to be good.”

I left the church within 6 months of that TR interview.
