I dont even think ya gotta go that far. Since its got few to no mechanics around it, you can just let them be a worse/better ish person and let people around them act accordingly

And that is changing it. I think if something happens to affect a character's beliefs, a curse, magic, god etc.
Then saying "you go from good to neutral" is the best way of doing so without taking control of the PC or taking away agency.
