My sweet mother’s favorite phrase was “lamb chop, lump o’ sugar, piece o’ cheese.” These were her words of love for my sister and me. (She grew up during the Depression when food was sometimes scarce.) I never realized that “piece of cheese” could be a reprimand!

It's what one gets called if one refuses to do the minimum obvious to solve some minimally obvious problem or task.

And if one keeps asking for things, item after item after item, one is apt to be asked "How are you fixed for spit?"
