Somebody has already pointed out to me privately that the "Boris Johnson" bit in the Manchester Evening News prop is from another paper entirely, probably The Telegraph.

This makes the "earlier edition of the Manchester Evening News" theory perhaps more likely for the main headline?

I simply don't believe the Mrs Merton Show art department would get the right font for the main headline, nobody EVER manages it. It looks like two real papers bolted together.

Also, the building-society merger article has the real headline, byline, and first paragraph — but the following paragraphs aren't the original! The words aren't readable, but the spaces between them don't line up.

I can understand using real text or using fake text. But a mixture seems odd.

Text is same until word "windfall". My thought is the show have removed the Halifax and Leeds Perm logos (advertising!), shifted everything up, and pasted more from the Telegraph to cover it up. If I'm right, that suggests the "earlier edition" theory is right and the mortgage clue is a red herring.
